Spinoff into Tech: AI/ML/Blockchain/?
This newsletter (and soon a podcast) is a spinoff from Life Science Marketing Radio. If you were a listener there, I hope you’ll enjoy this as well. If you are coming from somewhere else, thank you for checking this out.
Life science marketing has come a long way since I started seven years ago. In the early days of LSMR, marketing automation was a hot topic. In October 2021, I published an episode on using AI to target physicians with email messages at exactly the time they were considering treatment options for oncology patients.
That episode is what led to this new effort. Chris Cullman, EVP and GM at RevHealth told me that episode was a must-listen for his team. I realized then (hypothesized is a better word) there was an opportunity to expand my content and create more value for a larger audience in life science (hence the cc:).
Technologies like AI, machine learning, blockchain and more are making their presence felt in life science. I’m sure that I’m late to the party, but I suspect I’m far from the last one to arrive. There must still be a lot of folks like me who don’t understand these things and hope to survive without having to. But my guess is those days are numbered. So I’ve decided to dive in and learn everything I can. It’ll be more fun if you come with me.
My Approach
Here is what you need to know about me. While I wouldn’t call myself a Luddite, I do a lot of things the hard way: ride a single speed bike, take photographs on black and white film (developed in coffee), lived in Mexico for an extended period on a 29-foot sailboat. I worry about technology diminishing the opportunities for live human interaction.
At the same time, technology allows me to publish a podcast to the world from my home. I’ll soon release a documentary shot on a consumer level digital camera. And my son and I could not have brought a VW van that has travelled farther than Apollo 11 back to life without access to YouTube.
All that to say, my intent is to be neither a cheerleader nor a detractor of these new technologies but rather a curious observer. I will sometimes be a fanboy of a cool, new technology, but will also ask if we are solving the right problems or kicking the can down the road.
Goals
My goal is to understand how these technologies work and how they can make a positive impact in the life science industry. I want to enable you to learn along with me. And finally, I want to create not just an audience around this content but a community. That worked pretty well at Life Science Marketing Radio. Let’s expand our network here.
What are you interested in?
I’d love to know what specific questions you have or topics you want me to cover. If there is interest and I can find the people to talk to, the possibilities are huge. Comments are always open.
