Why Hiring the Most Qualified Person Might Be a Mistake

Steve Jobs said hiring is one of the most important skills a manager can have. Bob Penney is passionate about building teams. Not in the sense of “Let’s all go rock climbing.” Rather it’s assembling a collection of people who can work together to accomplish something significant.

But surprisingly, this doesn’t mean he is always looking for the most qualified person to fill a position. Because we’re talking about teams, there are roles that people play independent of the skills they bring to the job.
